Emerald Publishing volunteer for BTRS

Emerald Publishing volunteer for BTRS

Thu 18 October

As part of their workplace charitable giving programme, Emerald Publishing let two of its managers out of the office for a day to help out at No 31. Here's what they got up to during their time with us.
Our relationship with Emerald Publishing goes back 15 years as Andrea Key - the inspiration for BTRS - was working for Emerald when she was diagnosed with a brain tumour and given 12 months to live.

At Andrea’s request, the funds that her friends, colleagues and family raised formed Andrea’s Gift (now BTRS), a Yorkshire-wide charity that would provide support for brain tumour patients and their families, as well as giving hope of new treatments and possibly a cure through dedicated research.

It's touching that, all these years later, Emerald continues to support this amazing cause by gifting us with two motivated colleagues - Alanna and Sue - for a day of hard work and fun at No 31.

During their time with us they got a glimpse into a typical day here at BTRS, from pricing stock in the shop and serving cake to our wonderful customers to creating thank you's for our amazing fundraisers.
Nicki Hood, community fundraiser for BTRS said: “It was so lovely having Alanna and Sue here. We want to thank them both so much for their hard work and enthusiasm and for giving their time so generously.

"This was our first crack at giving our loyal supporters the full BTRS experience - meeting customers, sorting and pricing preloved clothes and even helping out with a fundraising event – they had a jam-packed day and we were so happy to have them on board.”
Alanna Townend said: “I’m equally as chuffed to be involved and help out. We had a brilliant day and it really gave us a sense of all the hard work, ideas and innovations going on behind the scenes at BTRS - whilst bringing a sense of perspective to take back to the corporate world.

"I worked in retail when I was studying and don’t ever remember working in a shop as organised as No 31! The amazing team really inspired me and gave me hope that people are championing for a cure, as well as providing support and advice for families suffering with brain tumours.

"It must make living with the effects of brain cancer a much less lonely place, so thank you for everything you do."
