Mid-Summer Memories

Mid-Summer Memories

Thu 25 June

Charities unite to raise awareness of brain tumours and walk up Mount Snowdon.
On Sunday 21st June 2015 Heather Othick from Ellie’s Fund Brain Tumour Trust, Rachel Finlay from BTRS and Paula Holmes from The Katy Holmes Trust trekked Mount Snowdon in memory of the loved ones that we've lost to brain tumours.

Heather, who organised the event, said “We all run different brain tumour charities and we wanted to do something together to raise awareness. We encouraged people who have been affected by a brain tumour to come along and walk with us along with family, friends and work colleagues to show their support. The more of us taking part, the more brain tumour awareness can be raised.”

Rachel added “Snowdon is a great venue for Mid-Summer Memories. You have the choice to walk up and down the mountain, and also the option to catch the train. This is great because it means that people of all abilities and all members of the family can take part in this event. I really hope to see this become an annual event that more UK brain tumours charities get involved with.”

The walkers were joined on the day by Kiki Connor from The International Brain Tumour Alliance (IBTA) who runs the annual walking initiative ‘Walk Around the World for Brain Tumours.’ Through this initiative people are encouraged to undertake sponsored or unsponsored walks to raise awareness about brain tumours and to symbolically “donate” the mileage covered to the World Walk target of circling the Earth at the Equator (24,901 miles or 40,075 kms).

Throughout 2015 Heather, Rachel and Paula have been involved in various walking challenges and will be symbolically donating their miles walked to the IBTA at the end of the year.

Rachel said “The first Mid-Summer Memories was a great success. We had a great number of walkers representing different charities from the brain tumour community and it was a great show of solidarity in memory of some beautiful people who we dearly miss.”

Snowdon is a beautiful setting for Mid-Summer Memories, the rolling Welsh hills and views of coast provide the perfect backdrop for the day. When you reach the top there is a wall in which are carved the words ‘here, you are nearer to heaven.’

Our first Mid-Summer Memories is devoted to Ellie Othick-Bowmaker, Andrew Wilson, Katy Holmes and many, many more.
