Janet Graves has been fund raising for BTRS in memory of Alastair Graves, who sadly died in April 2013 from a brain tumour.

Janet is holding a “Summer Celebration Ball” on 5th September at the Old Bell, Retford,  in memory of Alastair.  Tickets are £45 each and there will be a 3 course dinner and music from the Steve Love band.  Please contact Janet Graves 07595 276219 if you are interested in attending.

In May, John Parr (probably known best for “St Elmo’s Fire”) did a charity concert in the local village.  It was well supported and a wonderful concert, part of his ‘pretty village tours’, where he told his story as to how he became a recognised success in America .  Doncaster Free Press reported “Legendary Doncaster rocker John Parr got back to basic with an intimate gig which brought in hundreds for charity. The Sykehouse singer drew in £600 from the concert at Sprotbrough Church Hall in aid of Brain Tumour Research and Support across Yorkshire”.  The photo was kindly supplied by ©shaunflanneryphotography.com

Many family friends and groups have also held events. The 67th Doncaster Scout group fundraise for BTRS because of Alastair, as a tribute to him and all he contributed to the scout group as Assistant Beaver Leader.  They have raised money through an open afternoon and church service.  They have also held a Ceilidh night and been involved in Wear a Hat day.

Doncaster Roundtable have shown ongoing support and held a Ball in March at the Crown Hotel, Bawtry in memory of Alastair who was an active member.

An annual commemorative cricket day has also been held. The second  ‘Alastair Graves Memorial Trophy’ tournament has just been held on Sunday 25th May at Sprotbrough Cricket ground.  Eight teams played a knockout tournament to win the trophy and the ‘Kaye Team’ won this year.  Janet kindly donated the trophy as Alastair was a ’behind the scenes man’ at the cricket ground involved in upgrading the building, helping with fundraising. This left his brother and Chris, their son, to play for the team.  The event raised £300.

Joining in the family fundraising is Chris, their son, who is climbing Kilimanjaro in August for the charity ‘Dig Deep’ and BTRS.  We will post more news on this event in the summer.

Funds raised are over £6,000 – thank you to everyone who has taken part in these fantastic events and to Janet for all your amazing hard work.
