Four Auld Fellas take on a Yorkshire Boundary Bike Ride

Sat 04 May

On 14thof July, Four Auld Fellas will set off to cycle 425 miles around Yorkshire in just six days, supported by Alexander’s Restaurant in Skipton.
Kevin Wharton and David Goldie are both members of the Skipton Rotary and put this event together, along with their friends Rich Newall and Ray Cryer, to support BTRS in memory of the Skipton Rotary president John Wright’s daughter Annette, who died from a brain tumour when she was 11 years old.

The Four Auld Fellas (aptly named because of their ages of 73,71, 65 and 55) will be tackling the minor roads around the edge of the county and will set off from Alexander’s on 14thJuly passing through Hebden Bridge, Holmfirth, the bottom of Sheffield, across the Humber Bridge and up to Scarborough.

They will then head to Robin Hood’s Bay, Redcar and Guisborough before turning east to Barnard Castle and Dent and finishing back in Skipton via the Forest of Bowland on Friday 19th July.

With a combined age of over 260, they hope to complete the challenge in six days.

Kevin Wharton said of the challenge: “A brain tumour can devastate any family, especially when it strikes a child. Having seen this happen a number of times, we wanted to help eradicate this terrible disease and support those whose lives are changed suddenly and forever. For us, the best charity is BTRS. Not only does the Yorkshire based charity encourage innovation in funding medical research, it also gives practical support to those families affected by the disease. Support which is badly needed as families cope with the effects of the illness. We have also found the charity friendly, proactive and good to work with.”

We can’t wait to follow the Four Auld Fellas on their adventure and will be sharing updates of their progress on both our website and social media accounts!

The group are aiming to raise a life-changing £5,000 for BTRS through this challenge and would love any support you can give them. To help them reach their target, you can donate to their Just Giving page here:
